On January 18, 2018, VolRC RAS joined the project “European School of Social Innovation” during the meeting conducted by this association in Brussels. At the international session, Russia was represented by scientists from the Vologda Research Center of RAS: Director of VolRC RAS Alexandra A. Shabunova and Head of the Department of Editorial-and-Publishing Activity and Science-Information Support Ol'ga V. Tret'yakova

European School of Social Innovation (ESSI) is a project that brings together organizations and scientific institutions already working in the field of social innovation to study and share the most important scientific issues, professional practices, and skills in this field. The ESSI is a platform for completing SI-DRIVE projects, and the Vologda Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences participated in it.

During the session, the Director of the ESSI Antonius Schröder presented his monograph “Atlas of Social Innovation”. “Atlas”, as a result of the SI-DRIVE project, provides a comprehensive overview of social innovation in theoretical and empirical terms. It provides new information on the diversity of approaches used by project participants and the types of social innovation in different regions of the world and policy areas. One of the chapters of the “Atlas” was prepared by the staff of the VolRC RAS on the basis of a three-year research on the issue of social innovation in Russia (“Social Innovation in Russia: Easier Said Than Done”).

The participants also discussed the organization of the International Conference of the European School of Social Innovation in 2019 in Dortmund and the first ESSI Summer School in Budapest in 2018.
